Arts & Crafts: Knitting for Beginners


This workshop is aimed at complete beginners

You will learn about:
• Tools used in knitting: needles, wool, finishing
• Reading following patterns and charts
• How to hold wool and needles
• Tension of work and impact on finished items size
• Blocking out and pressing to ensure finished work is stretched out to correct size. 

You will learn a range of basic stitches:
• Cast on to start 
• Knit Stitch
• Purl Stitch
• Rib Stitch 
• Picot
• How to increase and decrease and combine stitches to make simple patterns 
• Cast off to end

Once stitches mastered you will learn how to apply these into simple shaped items.

By the end of the course you will have made some items to take away and use. Depending on skill levels students will get a chance to make simple practice items like a smart phone cover or tablet cover, flower brooch or hair slide, bunting, basic bag or cushion.
